How to Take Care of Your Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is not only durable, but easy to take care of. Here are some tips for you to take note:

Sweep Your Floors Frequently

The best way to maintain the appearance and function of your flooring material is to be proactive. For vinyl flooring, this means setting aside some time each day to sweep your floors. Dirt and other gritty substances can wear on the surface of vinyl sheets, diminishing their sheen. While forgoing one day of sweeping won’t destroy your vinyl flooring it’s important to consider the cumulative effect of dirt. For high traffic areas, you will especially want to make sure you are sweeping on a regular basis.

Consider a Doormat or Area Rug

Doormats are great for capturing the dirt and other small debris that can be tracked into your home on the bottom of your shoes. Depending on the layout of your front room, you may want to consider an area rug for more coverage.

Don’t Soak Your Floor

While vinyl floors are highly resistant to water, you should still avoid fully saturating your flooring with water. This can happen innocently enough when homeowners try to mop their floor. You’ll want to make sure while cleaning that your mop is damp, not soaking wet. That way, the moisture won’t be able to seep beneath your vinyl floor to cause water damage. As a cleaning alternative to damp mopping, you can also opt for a daily sweeping routine.
